Dr. Derek Horstmeyer is a Professor of Finance at George Mason University's School of Business where he publishes regularly on investment topics, ETF & mutual fund performance, and corporate finance. He writes a monthly column for the Wall Street Journal along with his students and writes frequently for the CFA Institute. he has also been published in the Quarterly Journal of Finance, Managerial Finance, and several other mainstream business publications.
Dr. Horstmeyer is very active at GMU outside the classroom. He co-founded and currently leads the first student-managed investment fund and currently serves as director of the new Financial Planning & Wealth Management degree at Mason.

Antti Ilmanen, Ph.D., is a Principal and Global Co-head of the Portfolio Solutions Group at AQR Capital. Antti spent seven years as a senior portfolio manager at Brevan Howard and a decade at Salomon Brothers/Citigroup. He began his career as a central bank portfolio manager in Finland.
Antti has published extensively in finance and investment journals and has received a Graham and Dodd award, the Harry M. Markowitz special distinction award, and multiple Bernstein Fabozzi/Jacobs Levy awards for his articles. Antti is the author of Expected Returns (Wiley, 2011), a broad synthesis of the central issues in investing, and Investing Amid Low Expected Returns (Wiley, 2022), which addresses the challenges facing investors amid the prospect of record-low future expected returns.

Dr. Cliff Asness is a Founder, Managing Principal, and Chief Investment Officer at AQR Capital Management, a quantitative money manager overseeing $186 billion in assets as of December 2019. Prior to co-founding AQR Capital Management, he was a Managing Director and Director of Quantitative Research for the Asset Management Division of Goldman, Sachs & Co. He is an award-winning researcher on quantitative investment strategies and has authored articles for many publications, including The Journal of Portfolio Management, Financial Analysts Journal, The Journal of Finance, and The Journal of Financial Economics.
Cliff received a B.S. in economics from the Wharton School and a B.S. in engineering from the Moore School of Electrical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating summa cum laude in both. He received an M.B.A. with high honors and a Ph.D. in finance from the University of Chicago, where he was Eugene Fama’s student and teaching assistant for two years.

Dr. William (Bill) Bernstein is a medical doctor, author, investment adviser, and financial historian. His research is in the field of modern portfolio theory and economic history. Bill has published extensively on investing and finance. His first book, The Intelligent Asset Allocator, makes the case for broad diversification in a passive portfolio, as does his second book, The Four Pillars of Investing. Bill's economic history books include The Birth of Plenty, is a history of the world's standard of living, and A Splendid Exchange: How Trade Shaped the World, a history of world trade.
Dr. Bernstein holds a Ph.D. in chemistry and an M.D.; he practiced neurology until retiring from the field in the 1990s and became a full-time researcher, investment adviser, and author.

Larry Swedroe is a principal and Chief Research Officer of Buckingham Strategic Wealth, a 17 billion dollar wealth management company headquartered in St. Louis, MO. Since joining the firm in 1996, Larry Swedroe has spent his time, talent and energy educating investors on the elements of investing with an enthusiasm few can match.
Larry has published 17 books that explain investing in layman’s terms. His first book, “The Only Guide to a Winning Investment Strategy You’ll Ever Need” is in its second edition. He has since authored sixteen more books including, “What Wall Street Doesn’t Want You to Know” (2001), “Rational Investing in Irrational Times” (2002), “The Successful Investor Today” (2003), “Wise Investing Made Simple” (2007), “Wise Investing Made Simpler” (2010), “The Quest for Alpha” (2011) and “Think, Act, and Invest Like Warren Buffett” (2012), and his latest book, "Your Complete Guide to a Successful & Secure Retirement" (2019), which is a focus of this podcast.
Previously, Larry was Vice-Chairman of Prudential Home Mortgage, the nation’s second-largest home mortgage lender. Dr. Wesley R. "Wes" Gray is my guest in Episode 9, and our focus is on "factor" investing. Dr. Gray is the CEO of Alpha Architect, an author, portfolio manager, United States Marine, Iraq War vet, and a former professor of finance at Drexel University. He earned an MBA and a Ph.D. in finance from the University of Chicago where he studied under Nobel Prize Winner Eugene Fama.
